From Our Campers

"My son had just an awesome week – we have attended many hockey camps in previous summers and this was the best by far. Lots of fun, lots of work, and for me (mom), great supervision and the coaches were very approachable."

Tim Thomas Hockey Camp 2010 was the highlight of my summer.  I liked how the camp included class room discussions, dry land and on ice drills.  Being a beginner hockey player, at 40, I was a little nervous to go to a week long Tim Thomas camp!  After day one, I was hooked.  All the coaches were professional, knowledgeable, and fun.  I feel I learned a lot when we were in small groups and went into 10 minute stations. Overall, I feel the camp was well organized and I highly recommend it to skaters of all ages.

The camp worked for me because it gave me the kind of foundation I need to build my game around. I also came away with three or four specific areas of focus -- parts of my game that I need to improve and can improve on my own, based on the instruction I received at the camp. I felt that my game improved right away. I noticed the results on the ice in the days and weeks immediately after camp.

To Rachel Lenzi, staff writer for the Portland Press Herald in Portland, ME:

Rachel- Thank you for the great article on the Tim Thomas hockey clinic. I was a participant in the adult clinic and your story really caught the spirit of the camp. It was by far the best clinic that I have ever taken and the group really developed a strong friendship during the week. Your story will be a wonderful addition to my memories of this experience.

Email we received after Day 1 of the Adult Camp in Maine:

Now that I know what to expect, I am going to be better prepared tomorrow. That session kicked my butt. And I loved every second of it.

Tim and Pavel- Thank you for a wonderful week. I am truly grateful for all that the clinic and staff offered during the week which brought many new skills and fond memories and friendships. We are often considered crazy for being a goalie. When you learn new skills and really understand the logic behind how the position is played it seems absurd not to be playing goalie. The time with Tim Thomas really put the finishing touch to the clinic. Understanding how he addressed difficult shooters, breakaways, two on one's and just his mental process during the game was invaluable. Yesterday I made stop on a breakaway in my morning hockey club that would not have been possible before the clinic. We won 5 to 4 so it was a significant save. However, more important than winning, was the shooter coming over after the shot and saying "great save." That meant the world to me. At age 57, my goal in hockey is to continue to improve, have fun and make the game enjoyable for the adults I play with. The clinic experience was a perfect resource to help make those goals possible. Thank you again and please extend my gratitude to the coaches who really made the difference.

The women’s camp was fantastic!  The instruction both on and off-ice was terrific and appropriate to our varying skill levels.  The experience was more than just drills, too.  We talked about hockey and, importantly, laughed like crazy.  A favorite part for me was comparing notes with my son at the end of every day as he did the kid’s camp and I did the women’s camp.  Sharing the experience with my son made it all the more special.  I look forward to doing it again this summer!

The adaptability of the coaches to handle the varied skill levels of our Woman’s group was fantastic. A great blend of challenge and fun. Had a great time and I cannot wait until the next session.

I thought the format combining q & a, conditioning and on-ice skills was excellent. As a recreational player fairly new to the sport, I found the informal q&a that kicked off each night's session to be helpful in answering questions about the game's basics, and the conditioning portion each night was definitely useful in giving me an idea of specific stretching and strengthening exercises. During our ice time, I really appreciated the coaches' accessibility and their willingness to answer questions and make suggestions to improve individual skills. And of course, it was great to meet Tim and hear about life in the NHL. Overall, this was a really fun camp that I learned a lot from. I'm looking forward to returning this summer!
